The Botham Family Goes Off-Grid With Baby Too!

Todd and Niekia Botham started their first off grid adventure this past August, 7 days before their son Tayson was born. That's normal right?? Niekia really wanted to have a home birth and  this was her small window of opportunity to make that happen.

They set themselves up on a friends property on The Cheekye Ranch in Squamish, BC in their 30 foot 5th wheel with solar panels and a generator for back up. For heat they had a propane heater and by the time winter rolled around they had a Cubic Mini wood stove installed inside the trailer.

For a separate mudroom for drying snow gear they installed another wood stove in an 8x8 sea can and installed some ducting with a 12v fan for the extra heat to travel into the bedroom. This is also a great help for the moisture!

We love raising our boy this way.  He loves nature and has most of his naps and play time outside with the doggies.

There have been many challenges, failures and lessons learned on this journey and we are happy to answer questions for anyone considering doing something similar.

We encourage you save yourself a lot of time and money and learn from our mistakes! You can contact us via our FB page www.facebook.com/solarmattersforlife
